Sec. State Em Chan Makara Says Hun Manet is Well-Suited for Top Army Rank

PHNOM PENH: Secretary of State of the Ministry of Social Affairs, Em Chan Makara, has congratulated Hun Manet on his promotion to the top rank of 4-Star General by the King of Cambodia. He said he believes Hun Manet fully deserves this position because of his great dedication to the motherland.

Sec. State Em Chan Makara said that Hun Manet has done a lot for the nation since he joined the army in 1995. He noted that Hun Manet has a lot of prominence as the first Cambodian citizen to graduate from West Point Military Academy in the United States, and also praised his vision as the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forced (RCAF), leading many military reforms since assuming the role in 2018. His dedication to the fight against Covid-19 has also made it clear that he deserves the top honor and rank.

In addition to his role in the military, the Secretary of State added that Hun Manet is also a well-received public figure.

It should be noted that His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni, through a Royal Decree signed on Friday, 17 March 2023, ordered for Hun Manet to be promoted from 3-Star Lieutenant General to 4-Star General; the highest rank in the army.

Hun Manet, 44, is the eldest son of Prime Minister Hun Sen. He was the first Cambodian to graduate from West Point Military Academy in the United States and holds a Doctorate of Economics from the University of Bristol. Prior to the promotion, Hun Manet has been serving as a 3-Star Lieutenant General, the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces and Commander-in-Chief of the army.
